BAM @ a Distance: Upcoming Spotlights

We are so excited to have so many incredible artists from all around the country lined up to work with our students! Every Monday night we will host a Spotlight Guest Artist. Each Master Class will vary depending on the artist, but all opportunities will include face time with some of the biggest names in the theatre industry, and special opportunities for select students to work one-on-one with the artists! ERIKA HENNINGSEN recently starred as Cady Heron in MEAN GIRLS, for which she received an Outer Critics’ Circle Nomination. Previously seen on Broadway as Fantine in the recent revival of LES MISERABLES. Other credits include: Kim Ravenal (SHOW BOAT, Lincoln Center), Beth (DINER, Signature Theater), Nellie Forbush (SOUTH PACIFIC, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera).  Broadway.com 2018 Star of the Year, UMich graduate. Upcoming: FLYING OVER SUNSET at Lincoln Center Theater. 

That is SO fetch! We cannot wait to have the actress who originated the role of Cady Heron in the Broadway smash hit Mean Girls as our Monday Night Spotlight guest! She will be working with 8 students on a 32-bar cut of a song of their choosing.

We have one of the co-founders of Stewart Whitely Talent, an award-winning office in New York City that delivers excellence and innovation in casting, as our Monday Night Spotlight Guests. Benton Whitley has cast numerous shows, including Hadestown on Broadway in 2019! He will be working with 9 students on a 32-bar cut of a song of their choosing.

BENTON WHITLEY co-founded the Artios Award winning New York City based casting office of Stewart/Whitley in 2011 with Duncan Stewart. Since then, his team has been responsible for casting numerous Broadway productions, including: HADESTOWN (2019 Tony Award, Best Musical),THE LIGHTNING THIEF, THE GREAT COMET OF 1812, ON THE TOWN, PIPPIN, LA CAGE and CHICAGO THE MUSICAL. In addition to theatre, Stewart’s office has cast tv & film (Netflix, NBC, Lionsgate, The Disney Channel) and various indie films. His office also works on Broadway national/international tours, regional theatres, and all Broadway-branded entertainment for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Benton is a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, and a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school drama department and the University of Michigan Musical Theatre Program. @stewartwhitley & stewartwhitley.com

COREY COTT, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, has spent the last few years since graduation establishing himself on both stage and screen. He received critical acclaim for his performance in the Tony Award winning musical Bandstand. Previous roles include two years as Jack Kelly in Disney’s Newsies, his Broadway debut, which was immediately followed by the Broadway revival of Gigi starring opposite Vanessa Hudgens. On television, he portrayed writer Townsend Martin opposite Christina Ricci in the Amazon series “Z: The Beginning of Everything”, about the life of Zelda Fitzgerald and can be seen in a recurring role on “The Good Fight” (CBS All Access). Across the Atlantic, Mr. Cott co- starred alongside Hattie Morahan in the BBC miniseries “My Mother and Other Strangers” which also aired on PBS. He was a series regular in the Amazon pilot “The Interestings”, and has guest starred on “Madam Secretary”, “Public Morals”, and “Law and Order: SVU.” He will star opposite Kim Cattrall in the new Fox drama “Filthy Rich” premiering this fall. A native of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, he starred in Francesca Zambello’s productions of West Side Story at Chicago’s Lyric Theater, and in concert with the National Symphony Orchestra at The Kennedy Center, conducted by Steven Reineke. He recently made his Carnegie Hall debut singing with the New York Pops, and will be returning to sing at the iconic venue this November. He lives with his wife and two sons.

Work with Broadway's leading man: Corey Cott! He was last seen on Broadway in the Tony Award winning musical Brandstand, and before that he played Jack Kelly in Newsies for two years on Broadway. He will be working with 8 students on one minute cuts of monologues and songs of their choosing.

CHRISTY ALTOMARE originated the role of Anya in the Broadway production of Anastasia for which she received the Theatre World Award and was nominated for an Outer Critics Award and a Drama Desk Award for lead actress in a musical. She made her Broadway debut playing the role of Sophie Sheridan in Mamma Mia. Off- Broadway, Christy portrayed the role of Sue Snell in MCC’s revival of Carrie the Musical. Christy can be heard in the cast recordings of both Anastasia and Carrie. She toured the country in the first national tour of Spring awakening, playing role of Wendla Bergman. Regional credits include Jerusha Abbott in John Caird and Paul Gordon’s production of Daddy Long Legs,Guinevere in Camelot at Drury Lane in Chicago, and ,most recently , Nellie Forbush in South Pacific at the Aspen Music festival. Christy is a graduate of the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Along with her passion for musical theater, she is a songwriter/ recording artist, currently working on a number of projects.
