CLASSES:

Classes will meet for the first eight weeks from 5 - 7pm every Sunday. This year, students will begin with Ensemble Based Acting, where they will be exposed to various acting methods and techniques, and learn to connect with their peers on a deeper level onstage. From there, they will then head into Musical Theatre Dance where they will enhance technique and learn combinations stemming from a variety of musical theatre styles. Students selected for BCE also have the option to enroll in Advanced Acting: Scenes & Monologues (Fall, 2022) and Advanced Acting: Song Interpretation (Spring, 2023) which meets on Thursdays from 6 - 7pm throughout the fall and spring terms at no additional cost. More information on these additional class opportunities can be found here

FALL PRODUCTION:

The production component of the BCE program aims to expand the horizons of our students by introducing them to something they would rarely have an opportunity to study and perform. It is our desire to present a completely new and fresh piece of musical theatre - either a title that has been rarely produced, or a completely fresh take on a more familiar piece of theatre.

JUNIOR THEATRE FESTIVAL:

The Junior Theater Festival (JTF) is the world’s biggest and best celebration of young people performing musical theater. JTF brings together student musical theater troupes from all over the world for a weekend of musical theater mayhem and madness. Each troupe performs fifteen minutes from a Broadway Junior®️ show for adjudication by a panel of musical theater experts. The weekend also features professional development for teachers, workshops for students and parents, a New Works Showcase featuring new musical adaptations soon to be released and concludes with a grand finale concert headlined by Broadway’s best!

We will begin rehearsing the JTF show (title announced August 1!) in December, and then travel to the festival, which will be held February 16 - 20, 2023 in Sacramento, CA. Please note that festival participation and travel fees are additional costs, and not included in the tuition for BCE. Parents are highly encouraged to attend the festival. We require one parent chaperone for every 4 students in attendance. After JTF, students will then return home to perform an extended version of the JTF show for our final performance weekend. Additional JTF information is available here.
